I believe that the role of Spanish teachers in the United States must go well beyond their responsibility for teaching the language and culture of the Hispanic world.

Hispanics make up the largest minority in the US and their influence on American culture dates back centuries. Hispanics are part of the history of this nation and that is why we as Spanish teachers ought to help our students appreciate and want to learn everything around the language we teach.
