I love technology, so one of my favorite gifts I received at Christmas was a voice assistant. My wife gave me an Amazon Echo, better known in the world of technology as Alexa.
The reality of the teachers is that we spent the majority of our time at school, so I didn’t have many opportunities to interact with Alexa at home. She was feeling lonely.

One day a student asked me a question I could not answer. At that time it occurred to me that Alexa would be a good tool for my class since it can be programmed to listen and speak in Spanish.
In the following videos you can see some ways how I interact with Alexa in my classroom.
Other possible uses in the WL classroom are:
As a timer in TL
Create schedules in TL
Play music in TL
Play radio stations around the world on TL
Play trivia in TL
Name world countries in the TL
As you can see Alexa is a great tool in the WL classroom, but one of the uses that I enjoy most is when my students interact with the device since they must make sure to pronounce very well in the TL when giving directions to Alexa, while making sure to listen very well when Alexa answers their questions.
IMPORTANT: I recommend disconnecting Alexa when you have private conversations with colleagues, parents or students. Especially if these conversations are in English.
