Although the celebration of Thanksgiving Day is not connected with a culture other than the US and UK, this does not mean that we cannot lend the spirit of it in the world language classes. Thanksgiving gives us an opportunity to reflect on those things for which we are grateful. Sometimes our students only think of their immediate surroundings when expressing appreciation. That is why in this project I try to help them think about the things that they can be thankful for and that are beyond their family context.
This activity is adaptable to any level. For initial levels we ask students to find the words in L2 and draw pictures to represent them, while for intermediate levels we ask them to write a description according to their level in the second language.
I hope you like the idea and I wish you all a great Thanksgiving. I am grateful for our constant collaboration.
