Greetings friends. Today I share with you a strategy that I use almost daily regardless of the topic or the class. The main idea is to create expectation and interest in the topic of the lesson or unit. As I always tell the teachers who attend my workshops, we cannot assume that just because we are the teachers and only because we are in an academic environment, the students are going to listen to us and they are going to be interested in everything we present to them.
For me, educating means two things: making any topic interesting and making any lesson easy. There is no better way to achieve this than by establishing a real connection with our students, that is, they can see that we are really interested in knowing their opinion and vision to certain aspects of life.
In the attached audio I am presenting for the first time the idea of what it is to be a Don Juan. In the advanced Spanish literature class we must read El Burlador de Sevilla. In the past, I started the conversation by talking about historical and social contexts, which did not really motivate my students much to continue reading and learning more about the famous Don Juan.

Class strategies:
1- Present a question that draws attention: What are the three most important things in relationships between people, specifically between couples?
2- Divide the class into groups of 3 students (here via zoom)
3- Each group identifies the 3 most important aspects and must justify them.
4- All groups share
5- The teacher chooses the 3 most popular aspects in the class
6- A reflection is made about what the students think about the subject.
7- The topic of the lesson is introduced. in this case, El Burlador de Sevilla
8- Enjoy the rest of the ride.
