St. Valentine’s Day is behind us. The hearts, the chocolate, the candy grams, and the especial dinner will have to wait another year. During this day we celebrate love and friendship, we remember how fortunate we are to have many important and significative people by our side. But, do we celebrate love and friendship every day?
Life can be confusing and sometimes we lose perspective. We allow ourselves to be carried by routine and by our obligations, we forgot to keep celebrating important people in our lives.
Juliana, the main character of this story is an albino bat that although is not happy in her colony, is willing to take big risks in order to protect her family, friends and community. This beautiful fable written by Margarita Pérez García and Rosana Navarro brings an important message to our students: It doesn’t matter if every day is not St. Valentines. Everyday is an opportunity to celebrate love and friendship. Every day we can make decisions that could positively affect the lives of others.
In their book, Margarita Pérez García and Rosana Navarro, invite readers to use their skills and abilities for the good of all.
Due to her albino condition Juliana, is misunderstood and sometimes even rejected. But when she sensed that her colony was in danger, she didn’t doubt to take a risk and to use her special abilities in order to save them. How many risks, small or big do we take in our daily lives to make our families, friends and community better? I believe that we can all learn from Juliana´s story and that’s why this book deserves a place in your FVR library.
