I recently shared a blog post on HELPING AP LANGUAGE STUDENTS GAIN CONFIDENCE WRITING THE ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY. As you know students need to go over three sources before they start writing their essay. They have to read a text, a graphic and to listen to an audio clip.

The audio source is proven to be one of the most challenging ones. Not just because is hard for students to get a lot of information with only two chances to listen to it, but also because College Board is famous for chosing samples where there´s a lot of distorsion or the speaker speaks really fast (just like in real lfe, right?… lol).
I have found that scafolding the practice of the audio source is key for student´s confidence and success. We must use our class time to help students gain confidence in every section of the exam.
HERE is the form that I give to my students to practice the audio resource of the argumentative essay. Try to do this at least 5 time before following the AP procedures durng a practice exam.
