Perhaps one of the most popular searches by language teachers in social media at the beginning of the year is related to New Year’s resolutions, like THIS one I blogge recently. Thousands of activities that suggest how to address the issue can be found during the first week after the holidays.
We teachers are very used to guide, direct and ask different things from our students.
While thinking about some activity related to New Year’s resolutions, the idea of a slightly different exercise came to my mind. In this activity it would be the students who would write second semester resolutions for their teachers.

The second half of the school year is a good time to think about those goals we have met and those we haven´t. Most of the times students and teachers see reality in different ways.
By asking our students to write some New Year’s resolutions for their teachers, we can see from a different angle if the goals we set at the beginning of the year have been met. This activity also allows us the possibility of planning the new objectives for the second part of the year.
Many of us like or have to survey our students about the class and our teaching abilities. However, these type of surveys sometimes feel more like an evaluation that can be uncomfortable for both the teachers and the students.
Next week I go back to school and I will ask my students to write in groups of three students five of my professional resolutions for the first part of 2020.
Let me know what you think and how was your experience with this activity.
I´m including a Google form that you copy can use for this activity.
