A Day of the Dead song that celebrates life

On the first day of November we will celebrate the Day of the Dead in Spanish classes across the US. A Mexican tradition that, beyond its name, has as its real objective to celebrate with joy, color and love the lives of those who are no longer with us.

Today I want to introduce another way to celebrate the Day of the Dead in our classes: the song Día de Muertos, composed and sung by the incredible Nathalia Palis.

Nathalia is an educator, psychotherapist and singer-songwriter originally from Colombia who composes and sings beautiful songs in Spanish, English or in both languages and that I have used not only in my class but also at home since my daughter Sofia, listens each night her album In the Radio.

I believe that talking and celebrating the Day of the Dead with our students through the music and the beautiful lyrics of this song will help many of them, who still have prevention for celebrating this day, understand that the real meaning of this day is to celebrate life above all.

Here you can find the song on different platforms.

I invite you to visit Nathalia’s website, to listen to more of her songs and learn from her ideas on how to use them in class.

Here you can find the lyrics of the song:

Last year I had the opportunity to present a webinar with Nathalia on the use of music in Spanish class. Here you can see the webinar.

I hope you enjoy and use Nathalia’s new song, El Día de Muertos, in your classes so that we can help our students get closer to diverse world cultures.

Here you can find a resource to work on El Día de los Muertos in Spanish class, created by the Real Language Acquisition team.

Here you can read a blog post I wrote for the Wayside editorial about the Day of the Dead and where I give ideas on how to celebrate it.

  1. Hola profe.
    Gracias mil,
    Hector
